Install oracle report make the local database can't open?

Hello,

i recently install oracle report to my machine.
I select the Oracle Home Name to OraReport (by default it is in OraHome81 and location in D:\Oracle\Ora81). Location to D:\Oracle.
For your knowledge, i can't installed in the OraHome81.
Then i select custom install to install everything from the CD.
Everything is fine.

Then i modify the D:\Oracle\net80\admin\ , tnsnames.ora.
It work in my office machine. But it is not working in my machine. Why?

Before that i already install the oracle database a few months ago and it really works.
But, after i was installed the oracle report. The database was not open when i try to use the DBA Studio 's Instance to open the database, the database cannot open, mounted, and started.
It show the error ora-00205. What controllog ......

Why my database not running after i installed the oracle report?
What could i do?
Do I install oracle report before oracle database?
and the oracle report must reside in the OraHome81 only ???

Any help would be appreciated.

hi

you should first load oracle database. for eg ORAHOME81 in some path (eg : d:\oracle\ora81)
then you should load reports in diferent home(eg ORANT)some other path (eg: d:\oracle\ORANT) and then make the necessary changes in tnsnames.ora and other resp files as specified. It has to work

please verify your sid name in registry.Report will check
default sid in local machine (if no connection string specified) . If you have multiples database
you can create " connect string " in tnsnames.ora .

I am having trouble after installing oracle reports.

I installed oracle 8.1.7
oracle home = oracle8
dir = d:\oracle8\ora8
TNS = oracle8

I am able to login using sqlplus into the db using scott/tiger@oracle8

Now i installed Reports6i. I only installed the developer part. Details ...

home = oracle8rep4
TNS = oracle8rep4
port = 1949
dir = d:\oracle8rep4

What should i give to connect from oracle reports. I pressed Ctrl+j to bring up the connect dialog box in oracle reports. I entered user name as scott pwd as tiger and i tried with the TNS oracle8 (which is the TNS for my oracle database) and also tried TNS oracle8rep4 (which is the TNS i created when i installed reports). Both of them are failing. In fact the reports session hangs. It does not respond.

What am i doing wrong?
