OK, I'm upgrading to v4.1 from v3.2 on a Windows XP box; I did an uninstall on the previous version, but Windows services did not remove it as a service (v4.1 was logged as a new service, MySQL4).

I breezed through the install process, but I get an error when I try to launch the .exe file from the command line. It says ... "ERROR 2013 (HY000): Lost connection to MySQL server during query." MySQL4 is now an automatically started service under Windows and mysqld-nt is operating in the Task Manager as a process.

When I try to connect via MySQLFront, I get the following error message: "SQL execution error # 2013. Response from database: Lost connection to MySQL server during query."

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?

It could be due to a wrong executable path in your MySQL service.

I had similar problem, MySQL server was stucked, because of newer version installation. Executable path in MySQL service pointed to totally a wrong place.

It now may point to a wrong path. To a path, where is nothing in it.

If you want to delete this false path, you can do it. How? I know at least one way. By deleting all the suspicious
( and problem related) keys from register, with regedit.

This was in my case the fastest way. Started regedit from Run-window,
searched for MySQL, and deleted all the keys I could.

Then after it, restarted my machine. And now, the old MySQL-service was gone.

Now installed it again, and the executable path started to point right place.

It worked right after it.

(WinMySQLAdmin is handy friend by the way. Shows in a split second, does the MySQL respond.)

Hope this helps.
