Install Exchange 5.5 under winmdows 2000

Hi all,

I wonder whether I can install Exchange 5.5 under Windows 2000 OS or not? What services else do I need to install including with this Exchange 5.5 ? Please tell me your experience. Thanks so much for your help.

You can install exchange 5.5 with no problem on a windows 2000 server. Except that what I have noticed exch 5.5 doesn´t like w2k sp4 that much....

and you should install the latest exch 5.5 sp... is sp4 I beleive..

There are several points to note:

1) You must uninstall or disable the Win2000 SMTP service, or you will not be able to run the Exch IMC.
2) You must install Exch SP3 or 4.
3) You must customize the LDAP protocol in Exch to use port 390 or it will conflict with the AD LDAP.
4) Ensure DNS is set up correctly. This can be hell to fix if you get it wrong first time.
A working method is to set it up as a caching-only server with forwarders configured to your external DNS servers.
