Issue - we have an existing SAV 10.0 server group and want to install SAV on some new win2k3 servers but each time we install it - it puts the server into it's own server group - we need to add these new servers into an existing SAV server group but have not found anything on the Symantec website/user manuals on how to accomplish this - we've tried installing via cd, network share(vphome\win32) still no go - any ideas anyone?

You should be a ble to have multiple servers in one server group but within that group you can only have one parent server. You could set it up so the the other servers are updated through the parent. Did you try doing a server rollout from the parent server of the group you want it to be a part of?

No - did not do the av server rollout option - will that make the server a SAV "client"?

No it will not! You should perform a Client remote install from the Tools menu (in Symantec System Center of your primary SAV server).

Make sure you completely uninstall the existing SAV from the 2k3 server and reboot before starting the remote installation.

We tried the remote install via the System console - we got an error message in the app log under msinstaller stating that the client could not be installed on server class system - any suggestions?

Dont think you can install the client on a server OS. Just install it as a server and put it in the same server group. Set it so that live updates come from the parent server.

Are these servers running the 64 bit version of Windows?

Joamon - tried that but when it installs it puts the server in it's own server group and won't let us move it to the existing group - Winvh no - it's not 64bit just standard.

Peebag, very strange ... we have multiple W2K3 servers running as clients in SAV 10 Groups. No problem at all!

I have to admit that we had quite a number of issues (mainly concerning the Symantec System Center) with versions 10.0.0.359, 10.0.1.1000 and 10.0.2.2000. All problems have disappeared since I installed 10.0.2.2020. What version are you installing?

Peebag, something else I think of: after you uninstalled the unwanted server version from you 2k3, are there files remaining in c:\program files\sav ?

Maybe there are files left in the pki folders that are picked up during a new installation. Just guessing ...

Hold the phone folks - someone from our corporate av team found the solution - you have to run the Symantec Antivirus install from setup on the cd under the SAV folder - go figure - no where in the install manuals did I see that one - Symantec rocks!!!
Anyway I appreciate all the help from you good kind people have a great March 1st!!!!
