David,

Just saw your email posts and am glad you have discovered the problem. Post again, here, if you need to reach me.

CCMUSER,

David, aka, wirelesspep, had posted a couple of questions requesting assistance from me about installing ccm 4.0 on a generic pc. I just read his requests (posts) this morning and was simply replying to them.

Wirelesspep was referring back to some instructions I posted on the install process. I can't take credit for the instructions as they were really developed by BuckWeet. I only expanded a little on BuckWeet's original process.

Hi Buckweet/Intuity,

Being new to CCM 4.0, I did read through all the threads about installing CCM 4.0 onto a PC. I did manage to install CCM after many WIN2K "fresh" install's but I do wish to share my experience with other people.... again thanks/credit go to the two guys - and others....:)

Here we go...

My CCM4.0 insatllation always failed when it was installing Cisco Directory with the following error "REMOTE PROCEDURE CALL FAILED", had no clue what happened & WHY !! I re-installed W2K Server many times trying different options within W2K setup (I did use/follow the procedure that was posted in another thread....). and all failed the same way !!

I was installing/using the "NEW" MS W2K Server with SP4 already incorporated...it was this that caused my headaches !!

To get this working I used an old W2K Server "Advanced" install CD which I already had as well, then downloaded/applied SP3 and continued with the procedure that was posted early on....

I only used win-os-upgrade-k9.2000-2-6.exe with win-OS-Upgrade-K9.2000-2-6sr4.exe, then installed CCM 4.0(1)

I never did apply SP4, so not too sure if SP4 is the isssue here or maybe my PC.

BTW the spec of the PC is:

Intel Dual P3 1266
1GB RAM
SCSI HD's

Sorry to have gone on, but you never know it may help.

All the best,
John

John,

Now that you have CCM 4.0(1) up and running, you may want to
apply a new patch provided by Cisco. The filename is
"ciscocm.4-0-1-sr2a.exe". This will take your system from
4.0(1) to 4.0(1)sr2

To take it one step further, you may also want to upgrade
from 4.0(1)sr2 to 4.0(1)2a. The filename for this is
"ciscocm-fmu.4-0-2a.exe".

The reason you want to upgrade the system to 4.0(1)2a is because later on, you can easily upgrade the system to 4.1.

Hey, Buckweet,

Quick question. Someone recently told me that the same version of Cisco Call Manager 4.0 can not be installed on both a Cisco MCS 7815 PC Server chasis AND a Cisco MCS 7835H rack mount thin server chasis. They said that the hardware models are too different. Is this true. Iwant to think that you should be able to install CCM 4.0 on both platforms without requiring different load of software just for the MCS 7835H platform. Your thoughts?

Thanks,

Intuity
