install and setup .exe files wont start

Hi!

Somehow I can't start my install.exe and setup.exe files anymore. Is this a known problem? How can I solve this?

Help will be very much appreciated!

What happens when you try and run them? Do you get any error messages?

nothing at all. It just shows the hourglass for a nanosecond long.

Is it just Install and Setup files or all exe files? There has been a plethora of incidents when no exe files can be opened. There must be a new virus making the rounds at the moment.

Follow the instucations in "What are Good Virus/Spyware?Update/Firewall Practices?" faq779-5240

However if you haveing problems with all exe files you may need to run the following first.

This sometimes happens to me. Normally because of a failed/interrupted installation and Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) has not cleaned temporary files or something so other Setup Programs won't work.

Rebooting normally fixes this...

Try the Windows Installer cleanup utility:

But my sympathies lie with Greg's explanation.

Thanx for the tips guys! The problem has already been fixed but I couldnt figure out the cause of it. I have used a recovery point on my system before the error.
It was only with install and setup files and not with all .exe files.
