Install Aloha Backoffice 4.2x on what version Windows?

The deal I mentioned in an earlier post with my friend didn't go through to get his aloha 5.3x system, I'm working on getting one through other channels now.

So I'm still stuck with my Aloha 4.2x or 4.x3x (i'm not sure which version it is off hand) system. This thing is on it's last legs as I said in my other post and i need to breathe some new life into it.

First thing that I would like to do is upgrade my backoffice server (beign a computer enthusiast i have a lot of machines at home that i can spare). So My current server is a P2 - 200 mhz machine or something ungodly slow like that, and it's running windows 95.

FOCUS: What is the latest version of windows that I can install a 4.2x backoffice server on?

You can make Aloha work on XP, but it is a headache. The highest I would recommend in 2K.

DEFINITELY do not go to past Windows 2000. Not trying to sound like an expert here, but I've probably built 20-something Aloha file servers this year. All of the newer security keys seem to be ok with XP, but I always have head aches with anything over a couple of years old, getting Security Key Not Found errors(which I've posted about multiple times I here). I have no doubt-as Ezcrane said-that it's probably fixable with some of the newer keys (really old keys, I am not so sure), but it is not worth your time. It's a bummer, because XP's out-of-the-box driver support is good, and Win2k's isn't. When XP is done loading, there's far much less to do in terms of drivers. Nothing more annoying than getting done loading 2k, only to find out it didn't find your Network card... then it's off to another computer to search the web for it, burn it onto cd, blah blah blah

Anyway, my point being, I can't tell you how many times I tried to give XP a shot, only to end up scrapping the whole re-load and putting 2k on. The older the key, the more likely it will not work with XP.

And I am sure I am not telling you anything you don't know here, but don't forget about CISP! But if they aren't using EDC for credit cards, no worries. 4.2 was Aloha's first solid version, IMO.
