Is there a way to install all the necessary files that make a FoxPro 6.0 app run into a single directory? My objective is to avoid all the red tape involved with installing an app on a locked down drive. All the PC’s involved have a directory that is allocated for all our apps, so creating new sub directories within our allocated directory is not a problem. Thanks, Russ A

Yeah, toss the runtimes and any other files your app is dependent on into that directory and register the self-registering files and you're all set. VFP applications can even run from a CD, so what you are proposing is deifnately possible.

Is there a simple way to find what files I need to drop in with the app?

I was thinking about making a system folder in the main folder and setting the paths in all my apps to that folder.

Be aware that while what's being suggested will work most of the time (especially for VFP 6.0!), every version of VFP depends on certain system files being available or "up-to-date". (e.g. VFP 8.0+ requires the GDI+ files.)

Simply placng files in a shared folder won't update the files on the user's system. This is usually a bigger problem when the OS is older than the version of VFP, and it doesn't have any newer applications installed locally or hasn't regularly used the Windows Update site.

Many times the only indication that there is a problem is when your application works fine on one computer but consistantly fails on another.

I don't have ver 6 on this machine but for 7 the VFP runtime files are: vfp7r.dll, VFP7RENU.dll, msvcr70.dll. You will obviously also need your apps external files (eg. tables/database, dlls, etc), any third party add-ins and.

Before you do though I suggest you take a look at the following faq: faq184-2644

Good luck,

Ralph
