Install 8.1.7 client on winxp

I cannot successfullly install the 8.1.7 client on winxp. After selecting all the necessary components in the oui and pressed "next", the oui interface disappears and nothing happens. Anyone has the clue?

I'm trying to install on the client on a notebook with PIII running winxp professional.

I don't believe 8i is supported for Windows XP. You should try the 9i client.

Delete file 'SYMCJT.DLL' from Oracle8i distributive.

Hi, The deletion of the 'SYMCJT.DLL' is for correction of a Pentium 4 issue, not PIII ..


It is an unsupported platform and may not work no matter what you try
( you cannot be certain that all is well even if it looks like it is working OK..Down the line some data corruption could happen, for instance )

How about 9i, can I use 9i client to connect a 8i server?
