i have a bcm 50 6.0 instal tomorrow.

everything is configure on the bcm side

i went to plug in one of the 1230 series ip phones into my poe switch on my work bench to make sure they come up no problem

the phone does not go through the proper boot cycle

the avaya logo never appears it just says loading boot c...

then goes to a screen that says12x0 configuration nortel

if i swipe it then .. it brings me to a config menu but does not give me all the options or ask for the color*set password like it should.

i tried 3 phones all the same issue

has anyone encountered this issue and is there a quick fix or am i screwed

thanks in advance

Sounds like they are on older firmware. Did you press the Auto softkey when you went into config mode. You have to get into the screen where it allows you to add or remove a check next to the items you want to configure then hit the CFG softkey to get back into the actual area to enter the settings.

If it gives me a lot of trouble I will just hit the Auto and select the AllAut softkey, I think that is what it says. Don't have one in front of me. It's a pain in the butt to say the least.

I was planning on setting the ip addresses statically if I set everything to auto... Do I then need to enable dhcp on the bcm ?

tried going through and checking what i needed... the phone then just shuts off after i hit apply and never comes back up unless i reboot

also tried setting everything for auto and turning dhcp on on the phone as well as the bcm and still phone just shuts off

Just to update ... The phones were screwed... Went with 1100 series and worked perfectly

One problem remains... Has anyone configured a polygon soundstation 6000 sip unit to work with the bcm ?

We had a batch of 1200 phones that did not have any firmware in them. We called Nortel and that is what they told us. We had to put the firmware into the phones and when we did they came up just fine.

With that "Loading boot C message" you have to do the following;

Go into configuration using the 4 softkeys under the display, click on all manual, set ip adress for the phone and S1 ip adress(your bcm) then port 7000 then apply. When the set connect to the bcm it will download the proper firmware then ask the registration password.Once registered you can go back into configuration and set it to "all automatic".
A bit tricky the first time but after a couple of sets it'll go quicker.
