Hi there,
I am working on a small book ( 116 pages). The book has 8 sections of varying pages. I typeset each section and eventually imported all the sectons using book palette. I ran into two problems:
1) since each section had page # from 1 to x, I want to import all of them and recreate continus pages -1 t0 116. In the Book page numbers option I selected "continue on odd number, chosen starting page 1 but i could't generate continues pages numbers. Is there alternate way of combining these section without using the Book Palette

2) this is important. When I exported the book to pdf, the page numbers appear out side of the content page - in Crop marks. So when printed all the pages were croppted out. How can I make the pages to appear at center bottom or left or right of the bottom of the document? Is it done in pdf or indesign itself?

Hi zesource.

You should be able to make the page numbers work using the book. When you are on the first page of a section look at the Layout Menu then Numbering & Sections Options. Make sure all the first pages of the sections are set to Automatic Page Numbering. Then under the Book Page Numbering Menu, select Continue From Previous Document and check Auto Pagination. This should generate continuous numbers.

To make the number appear on the bottom of every page you should set up a master page. On the master page add a text box, then with the text tool inside the box, right click and select Insert Special Character, then Auto Page Number. This will add a letter that will change to a page number once the master page is applied to all documents.

Hope this helps.

Hi J,
Thank you very much for your help. I am going to make these changes as you suggested and hopefully will it will work for me.

How can I also hide some pages from appearing till certain pages? For example, the client wants the first 6 pages hidden and page number starts appearing on page 7 .You know how some books start with Roman numbering of a few first pages and then changes to regular numbers? This is similar to that but client wants the first few pages hidden instead.
Thanks

Zesource, do you mean your client wants the first few page NUMBERS hidden, or pages? I suspect you mean page numbers. If so, create two master pages (A-Master and B-Master) and add the page-number text box (like jcape shows you above) to one of the masters only, then apply the "blank" master to the first few pages and the page-numbered master to the rest of the document.
