Hello all:

I am fairly new to using Acrobat and have what is most likely a rather basic question. I am having to combine multiple single page PDF files into one multiple page file (often 100+pages). I am using the "insert page" command to do this. I am finding that if i try to insert more than 3 pages at a time, my pages do not stay in order.
I am wondering if there is a way to insert more than 3 pages at a time? Just not sure if this is an Acrobat limitation or if I am just missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try highlighting one file at a time [ctrl+click] as opposed to a block at a time [shift+click]. Using the control click should place your pages in order of the last click first.

good luck.

Well.. we are getting closer... but not quite there yet. Here is what is gong on now, and i hope this makes sense.

When i "control" click the files one at a time in numerical order (i.e. 2,3,4,5,etc..) then tell them to insert, the first page and the last page insert in the right place, but all of the pages in between insert in reverse order. so the final result becomes a page order something like this: 1,2,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,10.

Now, if i control clock in reverse order, it does just what i ask it to making the document come up something like this page order: 1,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2

Any more suggestions what i can do?

If it helps, my pdf files anre always named by number.

if you are using only numeric values for the file name remember that the system looks at the names as if they were alpha-numeric. In your case I would be sure to use a minimum number of characters and keep that consistent for all name structures. A good tip is never use only single numbers for the name.

Example: 1.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf

If you do this when you reach: 10.pdf the system will order the files as: 1.pdf. 10.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf

Use file names such as: 1001.pdf, 1002.pdf 1003.pdf, 1010.pdf. In this case the system will order the files correctly.

This may be your problem. Increasing the number of numeric characters may solve your sorting problem.

good luck.

Good Approach and i had wondered about the same thing while i was driving to work this morning. I gave it a try, but unfortunately, it did not help. I am still having the same problem.

I am starting to wonder if it is just a problem that Acrobat has with using numbers as a naming convention. Unfortunately if that is the case, i can not do much about it. All of those numbers refer to page numbers, so i cant really change my naming convention. Starting to look like i might have to stick to only being able to insert 3 pages at a time to keep them in order.

This is not a problem with Acrobat but with the way Windows handles your selected items.

Do this:
1. Highlight the group of files.
2. Go to the first file press and hold the ctrl button and click on the first file to unselect and click again to select it.
3. Now insert the files.

there is an Adobe TechNote on a similar problem when using Windows Explorer to drag-and-drop into Acrobat. I can't remember the article number off-hand.

0) open Windows Explorer and Acrobat
1) pane your windows on the desktop for Acrobat and Explorer so you can see both. Open your PDF.
2) highlight the files in Explorer
3) Click-drag on the FIRST file that you want to be inserted, then drag over to Acrobat.
4) the "insert pages" dialog box should appear.

NOTE: your files will need to be in the order that you want them to be inserted. I don't think Ctrl-clicking your files will work if the files are not "in a row".
