Is there a way to insert into replacing records with the same key? "REPLACE" does not seem to be recognized by access.

If I understand you right, you are probably going to need two queries. One to UPDATE the records already in the table and then a second to insert the records not currently in the table.

Does that help? Terry M. Hoey

I just wanted to know if there was some way to do a replace query so I didn't have to do a write and then an update. I just thought I remembered that some databases accepted "INSERT INTO REPLACING" or "REPLACE INTO" or something like that.

i tried the replace and substitute functions in an update's and append's criteria row. now i'm writing an expression based on iif.
- which didn't work.

where would the replace function be written? not the criteria row.
