Alaska only has one area code for the whole state (907). In our agency database, which is in Access, we need to be able to enter phone numbers from other states as well. However, the majority of phone numbers we enter are in state. Is there a way to default the input mask to automatically fill in the (907) area code but be editable so we can overwrite it if the number is an out of state number? I currently have it \(999")"000\-0000;0;_ so that the user doesn't have to enter the area code, but instead they have to enter spaces. No good. Please help.

Have you tried putting the area code in the DefaultValue property? or perhaps the area code plus zeros? Raymondo

That works. But I was trying to keep them from having to key those three stroke whenever necessary, whether the strokes be to enter an area code or space over/arrow over three spaces to skip the area code. I wanted the insertion point to be after the area code. I guess the only way to get around those extra keystrokes is to separate the field into two (which I don't care to do).

Thank you for the suggestion. I will use it and see if it will pacify my users.

You can actually set the focus on a specific character in a field.
Look up SelLength and its relatives in Access help Raymondo

THANK YOU raymondo! That's exactly what I was looking for! If it works I'll give you a star! Much thanks.

raymondo,

Sorry for the delay. It's been chaos here. SelStart is actually what I needed and worked great. Thanks so much! Here's your star.
