I have a CP1700. Since with the duplex unit and printer I've invested about $500 I'm hoping to get more than 2 years use. Particulary since it is my home printer and doesn't get much use to boot.

The printer is saying each ink cartridge is missing. It was in the middle of a print job suddenly stopped and says "BLACK, CYAN, MAGENTA AND YELLOW INK CARTRIDGES MISSING". All the cartridges are there, have ink in them, and the expiration dates are all next year, what's going on?

Given the price of replacing all the cartridges and that it still may not work, I am lost and frustrated. The last HP product I will ever buy, given my experience with this printer and my HP digital camera.

Your problem is not with your ink cartridges. the most likley scenario is that your print head is failed or faulty. worst case is that your main board has failed. Given that it is a HP inkjet and that replacement parts are most likley unavailable, I would recomend you go out and purchase a good quality Canon or Epson unit. Less likley to break down and consumables are much more affordable, plus parts are available if it does break down.

Good Luck

That's funny last week I threw the HP in the dumpster and bought a Canon. The Canon is awesome, it is a photo printer and prints duplex, and the price was $100 after rebate.

I have no idea why HP puts so many potential breakdowns built into their machines. That CP1700 always gave me headaches--it felt liberating getting rid of it.
