I'm redistributing eigrp from as64000 into my providers MPLS/BGP as65000. However, my remote locations, which are in AS64000, can't see and don't use the injected eigrp route. They prefer path X through the MPLS, but if I kill path X, the route will then prefer the injected eigrp path. I believe this has something to do with the metric b/c it's advertised to external peers, in this case MPLS.

thx

Tell me if I'm understanding your issue correctly; you're redistributing EIGRP into BGP but at the same your service provider is entering routes into BGP?? Or am I totally off base??

EIGRP is not transported over MPLS. If you want your spoke locations to "see" EIGRP from the hub, you'll need to set up some kind of tunnel between the sites so EIGRP traffic can be exchanged.

I spoke to the provider, which is Verizon and they informed me that I'm able to inject eigrp into the MPLS network. They can see the injected eigrp route on the PE.

I have rt-chicago which has it's s0/0/0 interface connected to Verizon MPLS and it has it's Di0 interface on DSL. The network F0/0 10.1.23.0 is being injected (redis connected) into MPLS/BGP.

The DSL is tunneled back to my ASA/PIX which then distributes the 10.1.23.0 to my HQ router via eigrp. I then redistribute eigrp into the Verizon MPLS. HQ happens to be the CE for the Verizon PE.

So basically I'm injecting the same route, from two different sides into the Verizon MPLS/BGP

Side 1: MPLS side on s0/0/0
Chicago_AS64000 -> PE_MPLS/AS65000 -> HQ

Side 2: DSL side on di0
Chicago_DSL -> ASA/PIX -> HQ -> PE_MPLS/AS65000

I also have remote locations that attach to the MPLS also. I would like for these location to choose the injected eigrp path to get to Chicago.

first point is without a doubt you can redistribute eigrp into bgp (as you have discovered). second point is, can you post a jpg of your topology?? i'm kind of confused lol...

here's what i think is happening (please correct me if i'm wrong):
if youre redistributing into BGP your EIGRP routes will have an AD of 170 by default as they will be seen as external routes when HQ receives them. if you are simply including your routes into your L2L tunnel then the AD will be 90. After the longest match rule, the AD will be the next thing weighed in determining which route to take. do you have the route listed as a feasible successor in sh ip eigrp topology?

lol.... I know, you don't know what I've been through trying to explain this. I've attached a jpg. Basically I would like for the dc router to chose the blue connection to reach chicago. keep in mind that i'm redistributing eigrp into the mpls from HQ. Thanks...!

Hello
Maybe a scrub conf will help.
Regards

Also, you want to redistribute BGP into your EIGRP....

redis bgp into eigrp

AND

redis eigrp into bgp

Not sure if you did that or not yet w/o seeing the config

Hello
Would mind explaining the solution so as to help us and others.
Regards

Sure..

I had to changed the origin of my redistributed route to internal, because any route redistributed into BGP will get an incomplete origin code (?) and any route injected with the "network" command will get an "internal" origin code.
Internal trumps incomplete. Once I got the codes to match I adjusted the MEDS. The lowest MED is preferred.

route-map SETORIGIN 10
set origin igp

router bgp 65
redis eigrp 123 route-map SETORIGIN metric 50

Want to say thanks to everyone that helped me out with this.
