How do I initilize a MAC HD, I have the following:
PowerPC Power Macintosh 5200/75lC

There are about 30 of these machines given to charity from a local high school and you could imagin what kind of shape they are in.

I want to initialize the HD and reload the OS, maybe even Yellow Dog Linux if it will work. Anyway I have 7.5.3 on CD but it is a copy I burned and the PC will not load from the CD.

I also have Yellow Dog 3.0 and I'm interested in loading it as an alternative but the machine wont boot from that cd either.

How do I setup the machine to boot from a Cd, how do I format the HD AND how do I reload 7.5.3 from scratch if all else fails?

Thanks

If it was me I would ebay a copy of MacOS 8.1 to 8.6 as many x200 problems were addressed in later OS versions

Then boot to that CD by pressing C as the mac boots
in a folder called utilities will be Drive Setup, which can format disks

"It should also be noted that reports from the field indicate that Mac OS 8.1 and later smooth out a lot of issues these models suffer from."
"OpenTransport 1.2, which ships with Mac OS 8, solves many network problems."

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
