hi, all

we've just replaced two new 3580 tape drives in 3583 library. I found something in activity log about the new drives after rebooting the library and tsm server:
05/02/2005 08:35:35 ANR8470W Initialization failure on drive DRIVE2 in library
LTOLIB.
05/02/2005 08:35:35 ANR8470W Initialization failure on drive DRIVE3 in library
LTOLIB.

and i got the errors when i tried to redefine the drive and tape path.

ANR2017I Administrator ADMIN issued command: DEFINE PATH
TSM DRIVE3 SRCTYPE=SERVER DESTTYPE=DRIVE LIBRARY=LTOLIB
DEVICE=mt3.0.0.2 INIT=0 ONLINE=NO AUTODETECT=YES
05/02/2005 10:13:03 ANR2020E DEFINE PATH: Invalid parameter - INIT.

can anyone tell me what's happening?

thanks in advance!

I found a procedure at IBM's website about define a drive and tape path.
Problem
If you received the error "ANR8470 initialization failures on tivoli startup" you need to check some specific points.

Solution
You need to check the following:
a) Check if the Library is configured correct
b) Check if the drives are configured correct. The procedure to reconfigure the drives is the following:
1)q drive f=d
2)q path
3)Delete the Drive Path
4)Delete the Automated/Manual Drive
5)Define Drive (If you didn't delete the drive you could make an update)
6)Define the Path (Check the "q drive" and "q path" to obtain data to configure the tape)
7)Define the Automated Drives

but I almost did as it exactlly, still getting errors.

I had a simular problem a couple of weeks ago and had to delete the paths and recreate them before they came online.
