Initialization error

I am running a PC and Win2k. I had to reload Pagemaker 7.01a onto a new hard drive. More often than not, when I click to execute program, I get a error message that says "the application failed to initialize properly". On other occasions, the program will load normally. I suspect some conflict but cannot isolate it.

check the Windows Task Manager to see that PageMaker has actually been released from memory and is not in the list of processes currently running. If it is, end the process and try to execute PageMaker again.

It may be possible that when you exit the program, it remains in memory. Running a second instance of the program can cause initialization errors.

hope this helps. Good luck.

All the Task Mgr shows is "Adobe Pagemaker initialization error" (Status) running.

Check the "PROCESSES" tab not the "Applications" tab. The "process" may not be released while the "application" is dropped from the list.

There are regularly multiple instances of programs in the process list. Some programs function regularly with multiple instances running and others have conflicts if a second instance is started when one is already running.

There is nothing in the Task Mgr (Processes) or otherwise that indicate that Pagemaker is running. There has to be a conflict with something else because at times I can just click the icon and the program will execute.

BigJohnD, Thanks for the info, although my error msg is coded 0xc0000094, I don't know if that makes a difference. In any case, just how do I give all users read access to Dll & OCX files in the application folder and the Windows System folder?
I presume I can't do this once Win2K has loaded. Thanks.

BigJonD, Nix on the last reply. I went through the last two steps giving all users access to DLL and OCX files. It ran through a bunch of them but this did nothing to solve problem. Also, I did not manually copy these programs onto this computer. I have the original software and reloaded using the original serial numbers.

Sorry to hear you're getting nowhere.

error msg is coded 0xc0000094
Seems to related to zerodivide, but that doesn't help much.

The usual culprit which causes a conflict with PM is the vid card driver. You could try a different rez, driver or turn the acceleration down ( Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot and reduce the Hardware Acceleration. OK your way out. )

If that cures it, look for a newer (or older!) vid card driver.

John,
What is so frustrating, and why I can't find a common symptom is that many times after booting up the same way I always do, Pagemaker will execute normally. As for my video card it is a Diamond Radeon 9200. I realize there are more expensive cards but mine is not bad. Find anything else which will help isolate the problem, please let me know. Thanks for your help.
