Hai guys,

I am running Redhat 7.2.I have nvidia card.I can get Xwindows by using command startx but it doesn't get into that by default.

Can anyone help in this regard is appreciated

Rgds,
NNaga.

you can edit /etc/inittab there is a line

id:3:initdefault:

change it to:

id:5:initdefault:

In the thread title itself I have mentioned that init level is in 5 (i.e).,entry in /etc/inittab is in 5 only.

problem is it doesn't gets started by default means unable to startx windows the same is possible once it comes to command prompt using startx.

Hope you have understood my problem and solution soon expected.

Rgds,
NNaga.

My inittab contains the following
# Run X Window session in runlevel 5
w5:5:wait:/bin/sleep 2
x5:5:wait:/etc/init.d/xsession start
The next step would be to search for the xsession -file in init.d.

Hai StefanWagner,

There seems to be no entry like this in inttab what to do?

Rgds,
NNaga.

As said tried but same problem persisting.

and did you look for /etc/init.d/xsession ?
Did you look into the logfiles?

Perhaps it's somewhere else - the startscripts aren't ordered in the same way over different distros.
