INI system

Occasionally, our vendor says that they need to INI the system to activate certain feature or change some configuration. It didn't take down anything since we have redundant system. Well, I am interested in learning how they do it.
So what do they mean by INI-ing the system and what CLI would they execute and where for redundant system?
I am guessing they are referring to rebooting the system, correct?
How many different ways can it be done?

BTW, I am using CS1000E R7.5
