Inherited system. Reset or modify?

Company is moving into a new facility next week with a landlord provided Nortel system that dates from 1997. I have no previous experience with Nortel, but management is pretty set on using it if we can, being as the Panasonic system we're leaving behind is even older and we have way fewer working phones left for it. I think it will be a good interim system once we get it dialed in, and will certainly carry us over until management is willing to pony up for something a little more "modern".

The system is physically setup as follows:

1 0x32 MICS with two LS/DS trunk cards and a 6-port fibre expansion card
2 0x16 station expansion modules
1 12x0 line card module (not sure how many line cards, and we don't need more than 4 lines in total anyhow, so we could probably completely disconnect this)
1 Startalk Flash (not sure how this is setup...didn't really get a good look at it)
2 ATA2 analog terminal adapters

And, of course, it has all the previous tenant's programming in it.

I'm tempted to factory reset everything and start over with programming it, but am worried about any negatives from doing so, particularly when it comes to the Flash and any possible key codes I might loose access to.

Could it be better to simply reset the 0x32 and delete system information/mailboxes from the Flash instead of resetting it?

Another question I have is on the 0x16 modules - the LED status lamps on both are flashing, when my gut tells me they probably should be steady. Is the flashing status lamp indicative of an error in these modules?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. Apologies if these are dumb questions (I did check the FAQ first).

You should always factory reset the system and the voice mail and start fresh. Flashing expansion modules is not good. They may come back after the restart.

What about key codes in the Flash? Will the only possible one be for if it's been upgraded from a Lite version? What's the easiest way to tell if that's the case? Again, I haven't been able to get a good look at the Flash, so I don't know if it's real obvious from looking at it.

Yeah, since I posted I searched using "0x16" as my criteria and found a few posts about flashing LEDs that look a bit discouraging.

If the Flash is upgraded it won't lose the key code on a reinstall.

I would line up a local installer for support. If you do a factory reset ,you will need to reprogram the phone system and the voicemail. That could take hours and hours of your time and good tech could get it done in a reasonable amount of time. How important are the phones to running the business?

You can look at the software card on the Flash to tell you what it is....unless it is a lite and was upgraded, they say Lite if it is.

Flashing lights usually means the power supply.

I agree, call a tech since you dont know the system.....no training here on the forums.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. Got the 0x32 and the Flash reset OK. Turns out that I was mistaken that there was a problem with both 0x16s - it was actually one of the 0x16s and the 12x0 that were flashing (and were also dead at the fiber ports), and I didn't need the 12x0 and the second 0x16 for my purposes anyway, so it's all good.
