Hiya! I've just inherited a simple database which was originally on Foxpro. I've managed to get it into Access, however it's probably a good time to overcome some shortcomings of the old database. My problem is that for the last 10 years(!) the basis of the database has been project number, manager, subproject, subproject code etc. Now the main project number and manager remain constant for a group of data but the subproject codes change. With the old setup the main project number would have to be inputted many times too many. I get the feeling i should be linking two tables, one with the main project information and the other with the sub project info - linked by the main project number. Unfortunatley i'm not sure where to start. I hope someone can help.

Thanks in advance

Don't even think of changing your table structure unless you are prepared to rewrite every form, query and report that uses the table.

Start by creating a form, based on the existing table, that will give you a pick list of existing projects whenever you want to add a new subproject to an existing project.

With a bit of clever code (Requery on a combo box) in Access 2000 or later, you will be able to add a new project and its first subproject, and then have the new project appear for selection to add the next subproject.

It's pretty hard to help you redesign your table structure with so little information. If you really want help on this, post a field listing for each table, or at least a list of your tables with the kind of data in each one.
