Hi,

We have the main production server which has the informix database on our site.

We have a DR server on a remote site. Now we want the following scenario:
1. When the main production server is down, then we immediately switch to the remote server. In such a case, we need the latest data on the remote server(may be 10 minutes old at the maximum)
2. Now the users start using the remote DR server.
3. Once the main production server is up and running, we need to move the users back from the DR server to the production server. Again the data on the main production server should be the latest from the DR server.

What the options we have?
What softwares are available to do this? Which is the best for this scenario.

Thanks for your help.

Regards
Shriram

For automatic failover look into using a shared storage array for both server that is managed by Veritas Cluster Server. The only problem with this is the disk storage is shared by both servers.

HDR (High-Availability Data Replication) offers the same failover capabilities, with each server having it's own storage device(s), but there is alot of human intervention involved when bringing the secondary into primary mode.

ER (Enterprise Replication) can also handle your needs, and there isn't human intervention involved for failover (aside from pointing the client to a different server). You only need to setup the replicates to handle any kind of "conflict resolution" (ie 2 people logged into different server and updating the same record).
