Hallo,

I am not quite sure whether this is the right place to ask, but here goes.
I have a Sun box with an ip adrress of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on which is running an Informix 7.2 database. I want to change the ip address of the Sun box to 10.2.0.x which I can do in Sun OS. Does changing the ip address of the Sun box have any influence on the Informix database? I heard that for example Sybase binds itself to an ip address and there you need to run a tool to change this - is this the same on Informix?

Hello,

There is no need to change anything.
You have an "sqlhosts" file in your
$INFORMIXDIR/etc directory.
In the 4. column of this text file you write
machine names. If you have machine names here,
you have to do nothing.
If you have IP address in the third column,
than you have to check them and change.

Regards,
Gabor

Hello,

Sorry I failed with the column number.
It is the third column that hold machine names.

Gabor

Many thanks for your input.

Hi,

Informix refers to the file $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts for all the issues related to connectivity. The third column in this file is the IP address / server name identified at /etc/hosts. Any change in the field content at this column should give an immediate effect to the database server.

Regards,
Shriyan
