Indexing PDF's

I am in the process of Indexing PDF's using Index Server.
I have installed the Adobe Filter, and am aware that I need to edit the registry... However, I don't want to screw things up. I do have a basic knowledge on editing the registry... However, am unsure on how I go about setting up Index Server to Index PDF's.
Can someone please help...

why do you need to edit the registry? when you install the ifilter, isnt it automatically adding an entry to the registry?
