Is there a way to save as .dot?
my friend created a letterhead in indesign and I need it use it in MS Word. to be able to write.

any ideas how to do this best way?

Thanks

There's no way to save it out to Word. If you just need to create letters in Word on your letterhead, save the InDesign file as a PDF, place the PDF in Word in the background, and allow text to sit on top of the PDF in Word. Hope that helps.

Ekwoman,

Do you know if that works on PCs? I do it with no problem on macs but, when I gave that same answer on this forum about a tear ago, a bunch of people said they couldn't do it. They were using PCs.

DANDCP - another trick it to have your friend create a new document that is JSUT the size of the letterhead print - say 7 in w X 2 in h. He can simply copy paste the old into the new. He can then save as PDF, Jpeg (max quality), and or svg. Then use Insert/picture in word and see whcich ones work. PDF will give the best result it it works for you and svg will five the next bext it it works. If it's for Word, make sure your friend uses RGB colors rather than CMYK.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

You could also export the letterhead as a pdf. Then go to Word, Insert Picture from File, and select the pdf. This will place the pdf in your word doc as an image. Then go to View-Formatting Palette and select the Crop tool under the Image tab. Crop the image to just the area you want to see (ie,just the logo and address). You can position the image by carefully clicking on it and dragging. Next click on the text box tool (on the Drawing toolbar, the icon is an A with a cursor next to it). Now draw a text box and position it within your margins. This way, your text will not have to "float" over a whole page pdf. Next, save the whole document as .dot file to your Microsoft Office templates folder.

Now whenever you need letterhead, just open a new document based on your template and you are ready to go.
