I'm on a Mac G5 using InDesign CS2 version 4.0.2.

Our entire office is having an issue with the spellcheck defaulting to UK spelling rather than USA. We've tried changing the dictionary preference under "Preferences" as well as in the Control Panel portion of the nav bar, but even after double-checking both places for USA, the dictionary will default to UK after the spellcheck is initiated.

Any ideas for how to fix this glitch? It's driving us all mad! Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Quit INDD then relaunch but don't open any document

Try setting the pref to US English. If you have a choice under the Spelling dropdown menu use Proximity.

Check the control panel to make sure you match the pref. Then quit INDD.

Relaunch and see if it holds.

You can also trash prefs in the user folder/library/prefs.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Thanks! That seems to have worked. Documents are still opening with UK in the Control Panel -- but if I reset this before running spellcheck now, it's sticking (not reverting midstream). I hope it holds!!!
