InDesign printing??

Hello,
I am new to InDesign. I am trying to print out 2 page programs that are suppose to be double sided each. I have an office printer(Fiery x2e laser printer)that duplexes but everytime I send it to the printer it comes out in 4 pages. I am not sure of all the jargon for InDesign. Am I missing something? In the print dialog box I don't see a double sided print option. In the print dialog box I even tried going into setup style and then finding my printer right clicking on it then going to properties which then let me set up the duplex style. Can anyone help me? This job is not an option for sending to a printer this is an in-house project.

Are you saying that you cannot access the printer preferences from the print dialog? This is where you would choose duplex printing.

Can you clarify your project? A 2 page document in InDesign is a single sheet with 2 sides. I'm not sure how you come to 4 pages.

If you are attempting imposition, you will need a plugin for InDesign such as InBooklet from ALAP.com or the PageMaker Plugin Pack from Adobe.com. For a small document like this, you could manually impose.

Thanks for responding. I don't have a printing preference option from the InDesign print dialog box other than in the bottom left corner is a button called setup. I have to go through Setup and then select the icon which represents my printer and then right click on it and select properties and then go into printing preference. Once I am inside then I can select duplex. It doesn't print double sided when my project comes out though. It seems like that is the long way around a print dialog box not to mention complicated. It seems like there would be a duplex option within InDesign.
My project is 4 pages in InDesign. When I send it to the printer I want it to duplex so that I will end up with a 2 page program that is double sided. I have been manually flipping the pages over to get it to print on both sides but I was doing some research on laser printers and in a report I read it said never turn your page over and send it in again because it will ruin your fuser unit. Since my printer can do duplexing I don't know if that means what I am doing is okay or not. Hopefully I have confused you further.

I cannot comment on the duplex matter because I am not familiar with what you are looking at. Duplexing is strictly a printer function that can only be handled through the way that you tried. It would be nice if ID could do it directly from the print dialog but it can't.

In regard to sending the paper through twice manually...

The report that you read may refer to specific printers. Many printers duplex in the same way as you would manual send the paper through twice. I would check the innards of your printer to see if this is really an issue. The results of screwing up the fuser are obvious: you may see bubbling and cracking toner. If you have successfully re-fed paper in the past and your service technician has not yelled at you, you should be able to continue.

The 4-page thing sounds like it's because of the way your pages are set up -- not a problem with the printer.

You need to make sure your pages are set up as spreads in InDesign, (so when you look at your file, it looks the same as the printed pages will be before folding in half).

Then make sure you select the option to print spreads from the InDesign print dialog box and choose Landscape as the page orientation.

Not sure about your duplexing issues, though...

I had the pages set up as spreads. Thank you for your suggestion.It turned out to be a printing problem. My printer guy came and saved the day. I appreciate your time.
