InDesign PDFs losing drop shadow

I've been designing variations of a poster in InDesign 2. The main heading is drop-shadowed text on a path. On one of the variations, the drop shadow comes out fine when I export from InDesign as a PDF; on another variation, I can't get the drop shadow into the PDF. Tried everything, nothing works. Any suggestions?

Which pdf format? 1.3/1.4/1.5? what are the other parameters?

Watch out for Acrobat 4.0 compatibility in your export setings.

Acrobat 5.0 works for drop shadows.
Acrobat 4.0 won't.

I've been using Acrobat 5, and it works one one file and not on the other, although they're almost identical. I've been setting the pdf's from InDesign at Press quality.
