i have a 192 page book that i am designing in InDesign, and whenever i export pages as PDFs, i get the following error upon opening the PDF in acrobat:

"cannot extract the embedded font 'KTEYYW+ROCKWELL'. some characters may not display or print correctly."

the other fonts seem to display fine, but rockwell doesn't show up AT ALL. normally, i would just choose another font, but both the client and i have agreed that Rockwell is the best font for this particular job. the font doesn't seem to be damaged, as it opened in suitcase without error.

any ideas why this is happening?? is there anything i can do??

i am running InDesign CS (v3.0)

thanks for any help!

Try printing the ID file to a Postscript file first (I know I bang on about this in this forum a bit, But it's still the best way). then Distill the .ps file.

If there is something wrong with the font the distiller will error out with the message.

thanks marcus for your reply!

unfortunately, when i ran the .ps thru distiller, i got the same message.

i even saved a page that had 2 different fonts, but none of them displayed this time.

oddly enough, in the file preview, it looks as if i can see the fonts displayed (i don't i know if that matters at all).

hereandthere,

you have "bad" fonts ...
with wrong info about font restrictions
you need to replace font to new version - or convert font to different format and reuse ...

ok, new problem now.

i replaced the font with an open type version of the font which was working perfectly for one day. then, suddenly, InDesign alerted me that the roman face was missing. however, i didn't do anything and according to suitcase, the face was still activated.

i did various things included removing the font and replacing it. i even tried to add the font to the fonts folder in the library, but that didn't change the situation.

i finally got the roman face to show up, but NOW, the bold and italic faces show up as missing (in InDesign the text is highlighted by a pink box.) InDesign says that it cannot find the path where the font is located and when i try to replace it with the font (which suitcase has denoted as activated, and i can select it in the pull-down menu in InDesign), nothing changes.

does this make any sense?
