Hi everyone

I desperately need to get hold of a copy of InDesign CS2 - I'm doing some regular freelance work for a publisher. I sorted myself out a copy of CS3 but after doing my first lot of work, it turned out that they all use CS2.

I know you can save them as a special sort of file that can be opened in CS2 (can't remember the name right now) but that doesn't work - because I get files including text and pics, but not the images files, if I save them this way the pictures all vanish because of the missing links.

I trawled the net and managed to find a 30 day trial of CS2 which I've been happily using, thinking that I'd be able to track down a full version in that time, but I've had no luck. Now I have no program, which means no work, which is a complete disaster!

If anyone can help me out at all, or has any ideas, I would very much appreciate it - feel free to reply, send me a message or email me.

Many thanks
A very desperate (and broke!) girl

Just to add, I've tried finding a copy to buy through all the usual channels without luck, as well as trying to find a copy to download, so I'm not just trying to get out of spending the cash!

This may be a good time to read the manual regarding 'Packaging' and exporting 'INX'. There should be few issues with making an INX file and package that can be read in CS2.

Hi there

Thanks for your replies, I really appreciate it.

Do you have any more information on packaging before exporting? Your post seems to suggest that there might be something I can do to the file before exporting to Interchange that would prevent the images from vanishing.

I've come across a few sites where INX files are described as "text only", so I'm getting quite confused now!

Had a quick look at my manual but couldn't find any relevant information - sorry to be a pain.

Many thanks!

If you package your document for version CS3, you get an INDD file and the supporting image files. Ignore the INDD file and send the supporting image files with the INX file that you also export.

The INDD and INX formats do not contain image files. They only refer or link to the image files, which you send as well.

That's a load of rubbish, you can't package files for .inx

You package files to get all the files in the same location in one folder. Not for saving as different file types.

What you need to do is package the document to a folder. Then export the InD CS3 file to .inx files.

Delete the CS3 file

Open the .inx in CS2

Open the links pallete.

Relink the images to the images in the folder.

That's it.

Oops I jumped the gun there, sorry jimoblak

I totally misread your reply and I thought you said you Packaged and exported .inx files at the same time. Of course you have to package then export the indd file as inx
