Since I've upgraded, everytime I use the direct select tool & click on any object, the program crashes. Platform is W2K and the error reads
"Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION

Anyone have a clue as to what would cause this? It was working fine b4 the upgrade. TIA

One possibility is that you have a beta version of Indesign.Pressing Ctrl key clic the about indesign in help menu. If the Indesig;exe file is 404 is a beta version.

That is why when you upgrade to 3.0.1 it crashes.

cheers.

The fun news is that if you tried to update the illegal beta that has been circulating as an illicit download and by sale on eBay, a Windows registry key is added to prevent InDesign from ever running properly on the system again. You will need to reformat and install a new system. Then you will need to purchase a legitimate copy of InDesign unless you prefer the old, buggy 3.0.

I'll have to assume that you're mistaken about the re-format as everything's working fine.

So you are using the illegal beta? [bigsmile]

I'm not using illegal anything.

If you were not using an illegal copy of InDesign then you would not know if I was mistaken about the reformat issue. I assume you are using a legal retail version so my original comment about the rogue registry key and reformatting does not apply to you.

I was just offering a general warning to anyone that thinks they can get a free lunch with pirated commercial design software.
