Using ID CS 3.0.1. Every time I open a file, it opens "read-only" and creates some strange "test XXXXXX" file in the folder the file is in. I've tried the following with absolutely NO success:

Run DiskWarrior to rebuild directory
Run Apple's Disk Tools and rebuilt permissions
Run Cocktail and rebuilt permissions & all other tests
Trashed all pref files several times (I sometimes get a hard crash out of ID requiring this)
Removed Font Reserve plug-in to disable
Created new user with only base system
Reinstalled entire ID CS from CD-R

I've had it! Does anybody out there have a suggestion on what else could be done to correct this?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Peter

Did Indesign used to work for you? Are you installing from a Legal copy of Indesign, sounds like this may be a demo or bootleg version. I haven't heard of too many problems with indesign but I have heard of a lot of people who have had problems with bootleg copies of Photoshop, especially after adding patches.

Peter,

One more question, if you create a new file and save it is it also readonly when re-opened?

Perrin

Dear Perrin:

Thank you for your reply. No, my copy is a full licensed version of InDesign and yes, InDesign use to work perfectly for me. In fact, I have a nearly identical Mac G4 at my office and I have no problems with InDesign including Font Reserve running etc. Actually, files that I have created at home (and now only open read-only), open perfectly on the other machine!

Yes...I have created test files, saved them to the desktop, and then reopened them with the same read-only situation. There is a very strange "test" file that appears with each opening of an IDCS file. It has no graphic on the file icon. I had never seen that before, only a file that was created in case you had a crash during application use.

If you think of anything, please let me know. My next move is to call Adobe tech support on Monday and see what they think.

Thank you again for your assistance!

Solution found! Thanks to some help from the Adobe InDesign forum, the problem was due to Virex 7.5 installed on my computer. I removed all pieces and part of Virex, and the problem went away.

All should be aware of this...especially Adobe!

Thanks for the assistance from the Tek-Tips forum.

Peter

Isn't Virex 7.5 a beta?
