I'm using InDesing CS3 5.0.4 and I have a problem that if I try to update/relink a link which is a placed InDesign file in my document it will crash my InDesign, then when I restart my InDesign it will update/relink with no problem. I've searched around but can't find anyone having the same problem or a solution to it. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks eugenetyson, I am aware of "INX Fix" but this is not a fix, this does not only happen with quirky InDesign files. I have had - on a different post - a person that was having the same trouble and he said that it happens mostly when InDesign has been running for a while, which is what happens to me too.

Can you offer specifics like OS version, where the INDD file and the linked files reside (locally or on network), etc.?

With pleasure, I'm using OS X 10.5.6 on a 2 GHz Dual Core Mac Mini with 4GB of RAM. Both the INDD file and links are on a linux server which I connect to using the Zamba protocol. I work with a lot of different files every day all of which are on the server, and have not experienced problems with this.

2 things to test...

1) copy the files to your local system, disconnect from the network share and then try to open the INDD.

2) check the file names and directory names of the INDD file and all of its linked files for odd/illegal characters. OS X is a bit forgiving by allowing some illegal characters on its own system - - but oddly named files might make a network connection hiccup during file transfer.
