Hi all, new here and to InDesign,

I'm trying to work on a 100 page study for 2004. I have the 2003 version of the study (as an Indesign file) so I mostly need to copy and paste text into the 2004 version. One problem, I lose my page numbers when I click on header text at the top of the pages.

The page numbers are at the top of the page in a header. The section title is in the same header (white text on a blue background). The text frames for the section title and page number overlap each other. When I edit the section text the blue background covers the page number and I can't get the page number to become visible again even though I can see that it's still there (barely). I'm sure it's something simple but I don't see how to get the page numbers to be visible again. I've tried the "bring forward" command with no luck

Thanks for any help.

It seems that you are working with a 'master page'. Use the Help menu function in InDesign (or the manual) for explanation about 'master pages'.

picklefish,

Thanks for the tip. My mistake was to create a new text frame when one was not needed. However, I'm still unable to edit the text frame (that's already there) next to the page number. Attempting to edit the "header" text frame creates a new one instead. Thoughts?
