Indesign 2.0.1 Page Numbers 1

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to set up page numbers in Indesignversion 2.0.1? I really don't want to manually be placing all my page numbers so is there a setup feature?

There's no "setup feature," per se. Rather you go to your master page (A-Master if you aren't already using master pages) by double-clicking on it in the Pages palette. You then draw little text boxes down in the corners and instead of typing a number, you simply go up to the Type menu, choose Insert Special Character, and choose Auto Page Number. It will insert a little A character which you can apply font choices, etc. to, and then on all your pages based on that master you'll have the page number sitting right there.

But what if you want to be able to edit master page elements which appear on document pages? (for example - changing the colour of a page number)

They always seem to be locked. Do you just have to create multiple master pages for each variation of aforementioned elements?

Shift-Control-Click them (Shift-Command-Click on the Mac). Poof, they're released from the master.

You can also update to 2.0.2 just for fun. It won't help with page numbering but it is good to stay up to date.

What if I want the page number to start at 8? How would I do that?

on PagePalette (F12) you can set "Numbering and section options" (sorry, but I don;t have english interface)
