We are using Incremental Backups with Reset Archive Bit on Monday thru Thursday. On Friday we do a Full Backup w/Reset Archive Bit. Our daily incremental backups are HUGE. There is no way we are hitting that many files daily.
I checked the backup from Labor Day (when we were closed) and it backed up the same amount it does every other day, so obviously there is a problem.

We are backing up to disk and keep running out of space. I read other posts saying that it may be a setting in our Group Policy, but we don't have any Group Policies configured.
I also read that virus scan software may be resetting the archive bit, so I randomly checked some files today to see if the Archive Bit had been set to backup again, but it is not. I did this by going into Properties and looking at the Advanced button. They did NOT have the "file is ready for archiving" checked. Is there somewhere else I should check?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! We are running Backup Exec version 9.

Hi

You need to check what is 'touching' your files eg. AV, HSM software etc.

Not to sound stupid, but what is HSM software?

Well, that could be it. We thought we needed a different selection list for each device (folder, since this is a backup to disk). I will test it tonight on one server. If this works, I will be eternally grateful!

Well, that made a big difference on the one server! For tonight, I have set all the daily incrementals to use the same backup selection list as the Friday Full Backup. DiverDown, thanks for your suggestion!
