Hello.
I've been having this problem some weeks now. I am doing a rotational backup job each night, with incremental mon-fri and full on saturday, but when I want to restore some files that were supposedly backed up they dont even appear on the window for restoring! The weird part is, that there are other files on the same drive on another tree structure, that do get backed up! Also full backups do backup these files and allows restoration of such.

The backup logs report that the jobs were succesfull.

If you have any ideas please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

I think you are running into an issue with Incremental backups. Incremental backups only backup files that change from day to day. After they are backed up, the archive bit is reset. In order to restore a file, you would have to know when the file was last modified. Unless duration of backup is an issue, I recommend performing Differential backups instead. Differential backups will also make full restores much less time consuming. If you attempt a full restore when you use Incremental backups, you will need to have the entire weeks worth of tapes instead of just a full and the last Differential if you do Differential backups.

I think that you might be correct halienator, I am going to try differential backup tonight, and I hope I will be seing the difference tomorrow, I was amazed at how fast this response was, thanx!

Hi
But Differential backups require more backup window(time) & tapes
If you have enough backup window & tapes go for differentinal backup otherwise stick with incremental backup.
