Notice: Fix Pack 24 (VIOS 2.2.0.10-FP-24) adds new features and capabilities to the VIOS. As a result of these additions, VIOS now requires a minimum space of 30GB in the rootvg volume group. Please ensure that your rootvg contains at least 30GB of available space before you attempt to install or upgrade to Fix Pack 24.

I want to resize the rootvg hdisks (boot on SAN on IBM XIV) without the mirroring/unmirroring on new hdisks. (chvg -g rootvg)
I read somewhere it is supported from AIX 6.1 TL4 ?

ioslevel : 2.1.3.10-FP-23 which corresponds to AIX 6100-05-01-1016

anybody tried this ?

thanks

I've never tried it on a VIOS, but I have tried it on plain AIX. With less than 100% success rate :-( and those weren't even rootvgs...
Why don't you just add 2 LUNs to the VIOS rootvg?

HTH,

Of course that was my first plan but if there were a more elegant way ;-)

On the man page of chvg -g :
3 There is no support for re-sizing for the rootvg.

On datavg's I resized LPAR vio'ed hdisks in the past with no problems

I've used this method with SAN disks (but not rootvg), the problem is you have to varyoff/on the VG.

How about assigning bigger SAN disks to rootvg then migratepv old to new, then remove old?
