Hi there,
I have a user who is using Windows 2000 and using an Access database. When he runs a query on the database he gets results which are different to people who are using the same database but who are running Windows XP. Can anyone help me in regards to a fix for this problem? Thanks in advance.

This sounds a bit suspicious. I would check that the actual databases are identical, in as that the front ends are linked to the same back end tables and the queries that they are using are the same as well, so that they should retrieve the same data.
I find it hard to beleive the operating system is responsible for differing query results, as they are run by the database engine.

It is very strange. I logged on to his machine as Administrator and ran the query and I got the correct results.
I also have the database on my own computer which is running Windows 2000. Logged in as myself (on my own computer) I get the correct result set. But logged on my computer as Adminstrator or has a local user - I get the wrong results. I am at a loss to explain why this is happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Quick thought: Is the database running within Access, or is access connecting through to a backend SQL client/server system which has security set by username?

John

The database is running within Access. I have downloaded the database to my local hard drive and am running it from there. I did the same thing on the user's computer.

If you are downloading a copy of the database from the server, then using that, your updates/inserts/deletes will not be reflected in the main database.

I think that is your answer.

Chirvan,

You may like to take a look at another thread which covers this exact issue:

I downloaded a local copy of the database just to see if it was a rights issue from the server side. The user usually runs the database from the server. Thanks for your help so far.
