Hi,

I've got an Athlon 2400+ but on boot up the MOBO says I have an Athlon 1800+.
The MOBO is an AOpen AK79G-1394.
Any ideas why this is?

*sigh*

Go into the BIOS setup and switch the motherboard speed from 100MHz to 133MHz.

Oh ok, but it doesn't identify it as 1800Mhz - it says "Athlon 1800+" as a product name rather than a speed.
I was of the understanding that Athlon CPUs had an identifier in them and was wondering if this could possbily be wrong?
Or would increasing the speed to 2000Mhz make it say "you have an Athlon 2400+"?.
Thanks for your time and sorry for my silliness.

You were all right it was the speed setting.
Thanks for your help. Sorry for my stupidity.

Some BIOS do not read the Athlon XP's identifier correctly.
If it's an X, then it's a Palomino core, and is usually correct. If it's an A, then it's a T-bird or Barton, which can be misreported, depending on BIOS version.

Cheers,
Jim
