I am running an annual salary report through ODBC using crystal. This report shows the detail for each employee (type of earning) and then an FTE total and a dollar total. I'm having problems with the group totals (total for each employee). Sometimes it adds some of the figures twice, but only on the first employee of the page. It doesn't happen on every page. My group totals are determined by the change of a name field I created by contantenating last and first name (using formula)to one name separated by a comma. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Can you give more Information? How many tables are you using? Is it possible that if an employee holds more that one position within the company that he or she has more than one record in the primary table so the detail records are linked twice?

More infor would be helpful.

Start with faq149-237 .
Then tell us how you added these totals (running total object, Running total formula, regular total). Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

I am using version 7.0. I am using 3 tables. One has the employee name information. The second has their job information (what they do and their status) and the third has the earnings information. On this particular report these employees only hold one position with the company. The prmary table is the one that has employee name information and there is no duplication of records in it. Running totals are set to total on change of name which is set up as a group.

Version 7 has a bug in the running totals. You might try turning on (or off) the checkmarks at the bottom of the Change group Expert. These are:

"Keep Group Together"
"Repeat GH on each new page"

These are related to this problem Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

Hi all

Thank you for your help. I went into my group expert and turned off the keep group together option. The report is a little uglier but at least now it's right. Thank you Ken.

You may be able to use the 3 formula technique to create running totals that aren't affected by this bug. More work to create, but easier to control. The 3-Formula technique is described in faq149-182 . Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting
