I recently noticed my transaction log sizes getting huge (>5 gigs) so I checked my back up logs. Evidently msbackup is skipping some files so the transaction logs arent being deleted. When I check the event logs i see
"Event Type: Error
Event Source: ESE
Event Category: Logging/Recovery
Event ID: 478
Date: 4/4/2003
Time: 2:33:42 PM
User: N/A
Computer: CWRMAIL
Description:
Information Store (2336) The streaming page read from the file "C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.stm" at offset 743526400 (0x000000002c515000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed verification due to a page checksum mismatch. The expected checksum was 2381102743 (0x8decbe97) and the actual checksum was 3871573756 (0xe6c386fc). The read operation will fail with error -613 (0xfffffd9b). If this condition persists then please restore the database from a previous backup.

Unfortunately my last back up that was successful is over a month old, so restoring isnt an option. Any ideas onhow I can overcome this without restoring from an old backup?

Ok so no one knows either.... Can I delete priv1.stm?

Update (in case anyone is searching).
my smtp engine had stopped, i restarted it and on a whim tried the backup again. The back up was successful this time. I am guessing that this trouble may have been started by a lack of available disk space as my logs had some entries referring to disk space being low. I moved my pagefile to another drive, defragged and then restarted my smtp engine (which must have quit on the weekend) and disaster averted!

In regards to the ESE 478 errors Do you have a 3rd party Anti Spam running on the Exchange Box ??
