I'm new to Exchange. I am running Small Business Server and just got exchange running and have been fighting outgoing e-mail every since. I can receive e-mail from outside the domain and all e-mail works fine inside the domain. When I try to send outside the domain I get an
550 5.7.1 error mail address rejected by server.

I think everything is correct with the domain host (mx record etc.) because I can telnet into the server from outside and the mail.domain.com responds correctly to a ping.

Since I'm new to exchange I downloaded setup instructions from support/exchg2000config.pdf and followed them. They seemed pretty good and followed technet directions pretty well.

Any help would be great
thanks

Can you tell which server is generating the rejection? The complete error message should give clues.

If it's the recipient's, go to and enter your mail server's address in the spam database lookup. "Mail rejected by server" sounds like an anti-spam tactic.

If it's yours, check the event log and head to support.microsoft.com
