Incoming calls to attendant can not be answered

I have an Avaya 8730 running v5 software. There are some incoming calls that we can not answer on the attendant. The calls just ring and ring. They either end on their own or the operator turns the console off. Any thoughts? Most often there is toll free number that appears as the caller ID.
 
are you saying the operator can't answer them when he or she presses a key on her console?

have u tried asking Avaya for an MST key to see if they can capture what is happening?

something u could try on your own is to trace calls in to her but it could be tedious, especially if you get hundreds or thousands of calls per day.

also, ask her to right down the number on her display and then try to call them back. they might be telemarketers or spoofers.
