Incoming attachments keep getting re sent

Where would I look for information regarding this problem...

Email servers on the internet are sending us mail with large attachments(thats not the problem... ), but when the email is recieved the sending email server does not get a confirmation that the send was successful.. so it sends it again, and again , and again... this is hosing our T line and our mail server... The recipient then continues to get the email message with the attachment, one user had a 50 MB email sent to him 32 times.... this is insane!!!

Where do i go from here?

Hi,

This can only indicate that something is blocking some part of the SMTP protocol but only for messages above a certain size...

Do you have a firewall that is using SMTP filtering before the SMTP request is forwarded to the Domino server?

If yes: remove the proxied SMTP service and replace with a normal service on port 25. See if this changes the problem.

If no to all above: check your configuration document of the server to make sure all needed SMTP commands are enabled (size extensions,...).

Then do a manual test using telnet to see if your server handles the SMTP protocol correctly or enable SMTP debugging and watch closely what exactly is happening.
