InCalls Key dead after Switch INI

We have an odd problem. We recently had our Option 81c upgraded from Release 25.40 to Release 5. Now, when the Switch is initialized, none of the InCalls keys will work on our 3905s -- UNTIL -- the upper "green" key (also Key 0) is pushed. After that's done, everything works fine, including the lower InCalls key -- that is, until the Switch is INId again -- then the process repeats. It's like the phones aren't quite initializing for some reason.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this. Our Vendor seems stumped.

Thanks for any pointers.

have all of the patches been loaded and firmware updated?

Hi phonz1, thanks for responding.

Supposedly all the patches have been installed, but it almost seems like they haven't "taken." The reason the Switch was INI'd last night was because a patch to stop AUD031 messages wasn't working. (It still isn't, we're still inundated with AUD031s -- which is a pain.)

So both times the Switch has been down since the upgrade, we've gotten the same "InCalls key dead" problem on all 3905s.

We've also had some really odd problems with phones that haven't had their firmware updated. Mostly they go off hook on their own. That isn't much of a problem because a firmware update fixes it and we didn't have that many -- probably 60 or 70 -- and they needed updating anyhow.

I would say that patch broke the switch, now you need a patch for the patch.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Ok, the patches are loaded but as pronzi asked, have you pushed the latest firmware into the phones. Loading PEPS and patches on the PBX does not do that. You have to go to LD 32 and either manually push the new firmware into the phones or schedule it to happen automatically at a good time, like off hours.

LD 32
fdlf l s c u

that will send the newest firmware available on your switch to the phone.

I would recommend you not do anything else while this process is running. Wait about 15 mins for the completion of the firmware download.

Thanks, pronei and bztguy, but this issue effects all 3905s, despite the firmware release. We have been pushing the new firmware out to the sets. I'm not sure how far along that is -- there's about 1,800 sets, I believe.

if it's not firmware (my 1st thought) then you need nortel to dial in and make sure you patches are active.. it sounds like they are not, the aud msgs should stop as soon as that patch laods...

i might make a param change (maybe a buffer size) then do another ini.. that forces the switch to reload the cnfg.. it does a checksum, if the working matches the arcived then those files do not load... i've seen that clear a strange system load post ini...

Thanks, John. I think you're right. The problem is getting our Vendor to the point that they will call Nortel. Our engineer will be back on Monday. He may have a direct path to Nortel or at least the authority to get our Vendor to do contact them. I had just never seen anything quite like this before and was curious if anyone else had run into it.

This is not a 3905/3904 issue. This also happens on 2616's on Succession 5.0. When the switch INI's all the ACD phones are placed in MSBY with the 2000 series phones.

Customer only had a handful of ACD sets so nothing was pursued with Nortel on this issue.

I would assume that there should be a patch coming out for this.

Also for those of you that have Meridian Mail to Call Pilot migrations with a Succession 5.0 upgrade. A patch has been written to remove SL1 type sets from 5.0. Prior to the patch SL1 types had to be removed via the MOOS Type set, but the ACD could not be removed. Please remember to load this patch prior to implementing the Call Pilot Configs in the switch.

John

RonBlizzard, sounds like a time for a new vendor to me. If you have 1,800 3905 sets, I'd say that you're large enough to get Nortel's attention in some way if you have this major a problem.

Thanks, janaya and curtismo --

The Vendor is here and, supposedly, will solve these problems with new patches and another INI. We'll know in the morning if it took.

Thanks.

bztguy (and others),

It turns out it was a firmware issue with the phones. I thought that they had pushed firmware updates to several hundred 3905s, but it turns out there was a glitch in the automated firmware updates -- and they started had with the 3904s anyhow -- and only got about a third of the way through them.

Sorry for the bad information. Looks like I'll be "hand" updating firmware in the evening (when no one else in in the Switch) for a couple months.

Thanks everyone.
