I have a site with IP phones and an old G700 with an 8300 LSP. System is Aura CM 6.2. The LSP has been rebooting. The G700 and MGP are not resetting according to their sh system outputs. Somehow this is affecting the telephones. They report calls dropping and dead air.

I have seen a problem in the past where after an outage phones will fail over to the LSP but do not have a recovery method that will make them go back to the main server. That usually means they don't work until they are rebooted. In these cases the phones are working until the 8300 reboots.

Do anyone know why the LSP resets would impact calls on phones that are not registered to it? It there some way to see if phone are registered to an LSP?

Thought I would bump this and see if anyone has any ideas why a rebooting LSP would cause call problems for IP phones that are not registered to it. The stack, MG, and VOIP modules are not restarting. Just the LSP. People are reporting no dialtone and dropped calls. I don't understand the connection since other components in the MG are stable. I have strolled through the logs in the 8300 and have not found anything the aligns with the restart times.

The Restarts SMI page provides a history of all telephony application server restarts, their causes, and the actions taken.

I have seen LSPs bounce in my environment with no reports of phone issues. I do not think that the reboot of the LSP is causing your phone issues, but rather, a symptom of another issue. You may have a bad board, the LSP or whatever else is installed. Even if you are running tests against the boards and they report 'OK', there still could be an issue. I just dealt with this scenario not too long ago. Or, you may just have a bad chassis.

If you have the ability, try unseating cards one at a time and see if there is any change. Especially with the S8300.

Thanks Randy,

I was thinking the same way. The phones are h323 connecting to a centralized CM server. The only thing they use the G700 for is analog and the VOIP media resources. I looked for a DOS attack and rebooting elements. I thought about pulling the 8300 and see if they report any more problems. I guess I keep digging, and taking digs for the problem.
