Hi,

I have a Flash 4. After the electricity went down for one hour, I tried to access Feature 983 and the system gave an INACTIVE FEATURE display. I then tried to F 903, but it gave me the same error. I also tried F XFTEST but the system told me that there is nothing assigned. I restarted the system, but still nothing worked. The Nostar system works fine though, I can transfer calls, use extensions etc. Could anyone give me a hand? thanks.
I have been reading all of the threads in this forum and have tried all that seems possible to me, but I haven't been able to fix the problem.

power cycle the flash

check the status of the VM ports in the maintenance menu of the norstar ...they should come up as idle: STK1 ...

if not probably software is gone ...bad

then when you do feature **XFTEST ...u must get feat903
if not there, test all teh feat codes and remove the inactive ones ... then power cycle the flash and check again

I've had this problem a bunch..For me it was one of two things that fixed it.
1)Reboot voicemail before ksu
2)F**config (it's going to be a long day if this one works)

ps: F9*0 should give you all active F9xx codes.

I had a similar problem which has solved only (!) replacement software. My soft = E/F Flash VM 2.0.10

Thanks for the replies.

I have checked the DN ports and they all display IDLE, except for the port being used. Then after doing F**xftest I only get "NONE REGISTERED".

I have also unplugged power from flash, but it didn't work. Havonasun, is there a especial way to get the voice mail and SKU restarted?

How can I change the software for the Flash card? Is that going to solve my problem?

Any more lights on this subject will be appreciated.

does the device type show STK1 for the idle Vociemail ports?

there is no proper way to reset this - just pull the plug and plug it in after some time

if XFTEST doesnt detect a code, and F903 is inactive, the status of ports is more than likely disconnected and your software is corrupted/gone ...then you'll be doing what sergserg did - replace the software cartridge

No, it doesn show that. This is what I am doing.

F**CONFIG
maintenance
Port/DN Status
Show Port
List
P101:202. STATE
Idle.

That's it.

Is that what I'm supposed to see checking the ports?

In the case that I have to install a new cartridge, is there a way for me to use the one I have?

Thanks.

it must be showing a dev type ...port 101 is the one connected to the vm?

can u check a completely port (Eg 122) and see if you see the type of phone connected.

I did not program the system so I don't know which port connects to the VM.

I checked all the ports that are assigned an extension number and they all show a device (type of phone). When I checked p117, I got a IATA device, which is idle.

Thanks

Plug a 7310 into the port where the Vmail is and make sure that the port is good.

is there a way to find out which one is the port for the VM?

Thanks

You don't even need to identify the port--just unplug the cable from the Flash and plug it into a phone. Flash 4 uses two ports, since there are two D channels on each port.

To actually identify the port, just trace the wires to the physical connection, then go into Maintenance to see what DN is assigned to the physical port, or...

Just look at programming for a phone that (is supposed to) have voice mail and see what the CFNA extension is--that will be the first Flash port.

ya just unplug the cable from teh flash and plug it in to a 7310 ...
press feature *0 and hit the intercom button and press view ...that gives u the port number

Have you tried using hyperterminal to connect via a laptop and see where the flash is failing during the boot procedure. It may be getting a fatal error during the boot because of hardware/software or both.

I've seen this happen when a Flash loses power momentarily or has a power surge during a cold start. Unfortunately the only way to recover the flash to competely erase its configuration. You will lose and have to reprogram all MB's, CCR's and greetings

To erase configuration: remove power from the flash. open the cabinet and short the capacitor that holds the memory for 5 seconds . The flash should now cold start as if brand new. Use F903 to set the F codes to 98x and then F983 password CONFIG to initialize it.

You may have to run F**XFTEST to clear the feature codes from the phone system.

Daliernest....your procedure for showing the state of the stk ports is only showing you the first station port 101. Enter the port that the stk is on and push the softkey for DEVICE. Stubborn startalks sometimes need replaced. You can find out if it is truly defective or not. There is a db25 connector on it. Hook your laptop up to it and run hyperterminal. I'm not sure what the port settings are for it; hyperterminal has an autodetect though. Unplug it and replug it, you will see the bootstrap and self tests.

I have tried lots of things and it seems the system is fried. Does any one one know if I can do something to recover the system or save a part, or should I buy the whole thing again?

There's only 3 parts to a flash... the unit, the software flash card and the power supply. The power supply sounds like its working. It is possible the unit, the software or are toast no way to tell without having another flash and software to test them on.

Did you try my suggestion of doing a hardware reset by shorting the internal capacitor? See my post of April 5

For quite some time now, several of us have been trying to discourage the practice of "shorting" out the components.
A safer practice is to "drain" the charge off through a resistor.
The resistor value is not critical. 100 to 220 ohm range works fine.
The "shorting" method may appear to work fine for your KSU, or Flash, or RAD, but may never charge up to its full strength again.
There is a reason that "shorting" voids the warranty.
You can pick up a resistor at any Rad_o Sha_k or other electronics store for probably less than a dime.
"Drain" the charge off through the resistor for about 30 seconds. You will sleep better.

Perhaps the unit you are having trouble with now has been "shorted" in the past.

Now I will climb down from my soapbox.
